As the mercury rises in Hong Kong, a dip in one of the city’s 44 public swimming pools is a great way to cool off and enjoy some water-based fun. And best of all, it’s affordable and family-friendly.
There are also a handful of hotel rooftop pools that are perfect for a little lap swimming and some serious poolside lounging, but these swanky spots can be tricky to get into as they’re usually only accessible to guests (or cost hundreds of dollars for a day pass) or require booking an expensive spa package.
The good news is that you can still swim in the city’s beautiful pools, no matter what your budget is, thanks to the government’s new monthly ticket smart card system. This will allow you to skip the queues and simply show your smart card to enter. Previously, you’d have to produce documentary proof of identity every time you want to swim in the city’s pools.
This new card is valid for a year and can be used at any of the 44 public pools throughout the city. Adult admission costs HK$17 during the week and HK$19 on weekends and public holidays, while children under three are free. And if you want to save even more, you can purchase the card online at a discounted rate!
Hong Kong’s rock pools are a sanctuary environment for many intertidal species. Physico-chemical variables in rock pools, such as water temperature, salinity, pH, and dissolved oxygen, have strong diurnal and seasonal fluctuations. Generally, rock pools have more extreme physico-chemical variations and stratification in summer than in winter.
In order to protect the environment, the LCSD has launched a series of campaigns in recent years, including raising public awareness on the need to preserve rock pools. These efforts are aimed at encouraging people to protect and conserve the natural value of rock pools, and to contribute to the sustainable development of the city.
Whether you’re looking for a pool to swim in, or just some relaxation, you can still find it in Hong Kong’s lush green parks and sprawling suburban neighborhoods. The city’s lush landscapes offer an oasis of peace and tranquility for you to escape from the bustle of the city center.
