When you think of Hong Kong, the word “pool” might not come to mind – shopping or dim sum perhaps, but swimming pools maybe not so much. However, it turns out that this city is loaded with spectacular pool options. From a natural infinity pool on a mountainside to the world’s highest pool inside a skyscraper, Hong Kong has it all. But while these pool experiences are truly breathtaking, they can also be pricey. Luckily, many hotels offer their own pools that provide a more affordable way to splash about and enjoy some (semi) private time.
Whether you’re looking to swim some laps, practise your dives or let the kids have fun, there are plenty of choices when it comes to public and government-run pools in Hong Kong. Some of these pools even have water slides and other amenities that make them more enjoyable than your average swimming pool.
The YMCA Bridges Street Centre swimming pool is one such place that offers great facilities at a decent price point. This pool is centrally located and boasts a wide range of activities for the whole family, including sports classes. The pool itself is fairly large and offers three sessions per day. Adult admission is HK$17 during the week and HK$19 on weekends (and public holidays), while children under three get in free.
Another great pool option is the Pao Yue Kong Swimming Pool in Wong Chuk Hang. This sprawling complex is divided into different sections to accommodate various types of swimmers. While the main pool is perfect for swimming some laps, it’s the leisure pools that really stand out here. The pools have a variety of water features and slides suitable for children of varying ages, so everyone can have a splash-tastic time.
It’s worth keeping in mind that if you plan on moving to Hong Kong with your family, then the proximity of a pool can be a major factor when choosing where to live. Thankfully, some of the newer developments that have recently been built offer swimming pool facilities as part of their complexes, so be sure to check them out before making your final decision.
