Swimming Pools, Beaches and National Parks

With the weather turning warm and sunny, pool owners around the country will be thinking about enjoying their outdoor spaces. Whether you’re looking to install a new swimming pool, renovate your existing backyard or transform your outdoor entertaining area, there are plenty of Sydney pool builders and outdoor specialists to choose from. Listed in the Pool + Outdoor Design section of the latest issue of Australian Family, these specialists are just a phone call or email away and can complete your dream outdoor space from frameless glass pool fencing to Australian native landscaping.

There are a few things you should consider before installing a swimming pool, including the time of year and what type of pool you want. It is important to plan your installation during a time that’s not too hot or cold, as extreme temperatures can have an impact on the curing process and can also cause delays in construction. For this reason, the middle of summer isn’t the ideal time to install your pool. However, winter isn’t a bad time either as Sydney doesn’t get particularly wet during the season and can allow your new pool to settle in before the warmer weather arrives.

For those who prefer the ocean, there are several idyllic swimming pools on Sydney’s coast. For example, in Maroubra there’s Mahon Pool, which has been carved into the inter-tidal rock platform, while at Double Bay you’ll find Murray Rose Pool. Both are accessible via a coastal walking track and provide swimmers with safe harbourside tidal enclosures.

If you want to swim at a secluded beach, there are a number of pools in the Royal National Park that can be accessed from the beaches. These are called Figure 8 Pools and have been carved by the ocean’s waves into beautiful formations. You can enjoy these natural whirlpools by swimming or simply taking in the stunning views and scenery.

There’s nothing quite like swimming at a picturesque beach, especially when it’s in Sydney’s iconic national parks. For example, in Australia’s Royal National Park, you’ll find a series of unusual pools that are known as the Figure 8 Pools. These are natural formations that have been carved out of the rocks by the force of the waves, and are filled and emptied with sea water according to the tide.

The annual SPASA Sydney Pool & Spa Expo is a great place to check out the latest pool products and services. While the organisation didn’t reveal visitor numbers, both organisers and exhibitors claimed that attendance increased at this month’s event. Across the two days, SPASA hosted 90 exhibitors, delivered 12 free consumer seminars and distributed its magazine to thousands of consumers. In addition, the exhibition facilitated four charity auctions sponsored by Spa World, Blue Haven and Barrier Reef which raised $21,000 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation. This shows that families have swimming pools on their minds and the pool industry is thriving. Hopefully, we’ll see further increases at the 2018 Expo.
